What Does a Chemical Peel Do?

If your skin has been looking dull, uneven, or just in need of a refresh, a chemical peel might be the reset button you’ve been searching for. This tried-and-true treatment gently removes the outermost layers of your skin, revealing a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion underneath.

At Tala Med Aesthetics, we love chemical peels for how customizable they are — whether you’re targeting acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or texture, there’s a peel that can help you enjoy the skin you’re in.

What a Chemical Peel Does

A chemical peel uses a specialized solution to exfoliate and renew the skin. Depending on the formula and depth, it can help:

  • Improve overall skin texture and tone

  • Reduce hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and dark spots

  • Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improve acne and prevent future breakouts

By removing the dull, dead surface layer, your skin’s natural renewal process speeds up — leaving you with a healthy glow and better absorption of skincare products.

How Long Does It Take?

A standard chemical peel appointment takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Cleanse: Your skin is gently cleansed with a mild cleanser and water.

  2. Prep: The surface oils are removed (“degreased”) with acetone to ensure even penetration.

  3. Application: The peel solution is applied in sections, starting with your forehead and working downward.

    • Depending on your skin’s reaction, two to three passes may be performed for enhanced results.

  4. Drying time: The peel takes about five to ten minutes to dry and often leaves a temporary orange tint.

  5. At-home process: You’ll leave the solution on for a minimum of six hours or overnight, allowing it to work deeply while you go about your day or sleep.

After Your Peel

Your skin will begin its renewal process over the next few days, and complete turnover occurs approximately every 30 days. During this time, you may notice mild flaking or shedding — that’s your fresh, new skin coming through.

To maintain your results, we recommend consistent SPF, gentle skincare, and regular follow-up treatments based on your provider’s guidance.

The Bottom Line

Chemical peels are one of the most effective and efficient ways to rejuvenate your skin with little downtime. Whether you’re prepping for an event or want to reset your complexion, this treatment delivers visible, lasting results that help you feel confident and radiant.
